Nicușor Dan commemorates National Peasants' Party centenary

President Nicușor Dan attended an event commemorating the centenary of the National Peasants' Party (PNȚ). This follows the recent promulgation of a law declaring 2026 as the Centenary Year of the party.

During the event, Dan highlighted the party's historical role in shaping the democratic consciousness of the Romanian people. He noted that the party, led by figures such as Iuliu Maniu and Ion Mihalache, was a promoter of morality, responsibility, and loyalty to the Romanian state. He emphasized the party's history of opposing dictatorship and its members' resilience during communist repression, where many faced arrest and deportation while maintaining their principles.

Dan also connected these historical values to modern Romanian society, stating that the democratic and Euro-Atlantic aspirations of the country are rooted in the values promoted by the PNȚ. He called for the reaffirmation of democracy and Christian values in the face of contemporary extremist trends and social hostility.
