Nicușor Dan congratulates Serbia's Students' List on election victory

Romanian President Nicușor Dan has become the first foreign head of state to publicly congratulate the Students' List following its victory in Serbia's parliamentary elections. In a statement shared on X, Dan described the elections as historic, noting they achieved the highest voter turnout in decades. He expressed Romania's readiness to collaborate with the new government to support Serbia's European integration and foster a prosperous neighborhood.

The election results, reported by the Center for Free Elections and Democracy (CeSID), indicate that the Students' List secured approximately 140 seats in parliament. The Serbian Progressive Party, led by former President Aleksandar Vučić, obtained around 103 to 105 seats. Vučić conceded defeat at his party headquarters in Belgrade, stating, “It is clear that we have lost these elections.”

The election saw a significant voter turnout of 69.3%. This movement follows two years of anti-corruption protests. While Vučić attributed the outcome to foreign influence from European countries and the United States, the Students' List—composed of civil society representatives—is viewed as a major shift in Serbian politics.
