Nicușor Dan to lead Romanian delegation to UN General Assembly
Romanian President Nicușor Dan will lead the national delegation to the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. He is scheduled to deliver Romania's national address to the General Assembly plenary on September 23, 2026.
In his speech, Dan intends to emphasize Romania's commitment to the reform of the United Nations and the country's contributions toward maintaining international peace, security, and a rules-based global order. The theme for this session is ‘Restoring trust, managing transformation: A United Nations that delivers for all’.
Beyond the plenary session, the President's agenda includes participating in high-level events and conducting bilateral meetings with other heads of state and government. A key diplomatic objective of the visit is to promote Romania's candidacy for the leadership of the International Organization of La Francophonie, specifically supporting former European Commissioner Dacian Cioloș for the position of Secretary-General.
