Niğde Gastronomy Festival begins in Turkey
The 6th Niğde Gastronomy Festival has officially commenced in Niğde, Turkey, running from October 2 to October 11. Organized through a collaboration between the Niğde Governorship, Niğde Municipality, Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University, and the Gastro Niğde Association, the event aims to showcase the city's culinary culture, local products, and geographically indicated flavors.
The opening festivities included a parade starting from the Derbent Junction, involving local officials, chefs, producers, and citizens. During the opening ceremony, Governor Nedim Akmeşe highlighted the historical depth of the region's food culture, referencing ancient bread recipes from Chrysippos of Tyana dating back approximately 2,000 years. He noted that the use of ingredients such as flour, cheese, honey, and poppy seeds remains a continuous tradition in the area.
Mayor Emrah Özdemir emphasized that the festival serves as a vital platform to introduce Niğde's rich agricultural and culinary heritage to a wider audience, noting that the city's wealth is often expressed through its dining traditions.
