Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University researchers to develop new Energy Security Risk Index

Researchers at Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University have received support from the TÜBİTAK 1001 program to develop a new Energy Security Risk Index (ESRI). Led by Dr. Gökhan Kartal and researcher Dr. Meral Yaşar Kartal, the project aims to create a next-generation tool to measure energy security risks on both global and national levels.

The index will utilize data from at least 50 countries, covering the period from 1980 to 2025. It is designed to be calculated using objective methods and will be provided via open access, with plans for regular updates. The tool is intended to assist both academic researchers and policymakers.

The project employs a ‘4A’ approach to evaluate energy security through four key dimensions: Availability, Accessibility, Affordability, and Acceptability. This methodology will allow for the identification of specific risk factors and the determination of energy security levels for various countries.
