Nidec proposes relocating UK factory operations to Romania

Japanese company Nidec has proposed relocating the operations of its Control Techniques Dynamics unit from Andover, United Kingdom, to its existing facility in Oradea, Romania. The proposal is part of a long-term strategy to consolidate viable economic operations.

The Andover plant, which has produced electric motors, generators, and transformers since 1964, could potentially close in February 2027 if the proposal is approved. This move may affect approximately 60 positions in the UK. Formal consultations with employees and representatives have already begun.

For Romania, the relocation could represent a significant shift in industrial competence. Beyond simple manufacturing, the move may transfer specialized engineering, automation, and robotics expertise and know-how to the Oradea hub. Nidec already maintains a substantial presence in Romania, including operations in Oradea, Ștefănești, and Crevedia.
