Nidera Semillas reports profit gains from variable maize density
Data from Nidera Semillas indicates that implementing variable planting density in maize crops can increase economic returns by an average of US$52 per hectare. In high-productivity environments, this benefit can reach up to US$85 per hectare due to yields increasing by more than 8.6 quintals per hectare.
Presented at the International Maize Congress in Córdoba, the findings highlight a strategy combining adapted genetics, environment-specific management, and data-driven decisions. Since 2020, variable density planting has produced yields approximately 4.5% higher than uniform population management. In lower-potential environments, the economic gain is more modest, estimated at around US$11 per hectare.
Over the last 25 years, Argentina's maize production has seen its surface area triple, with average yields growing by 35%. Modern management now focuses on closing the 19% gap between average yields and maximum potential through genetic development tailored to specific planting dates and regional needs.
