Nidzica officials oppose planned biomethane plant and poultry farms
Local authorities and residents in the Nidzica region of Poland are resisting proposed industrial developments, including a large biomethane plant and poultry farms in Frąknowo.
In Warmątowice, the city council passed a resolution to ban biogas plants within the Strzelecki Industrial Park. However, members of the Stop Biometanowni protest committee have criticized the measure as insufficient. They argue the ban contains technical loopholes that could allow for biomethane installations to operate by transporting raw biogas from external locations via pipelines or tankers.
In Nidzica, Mayor Jacek Kosmala has expressed opposition to both the biomethane plant and the acquisition of over 20 hectares of land for poultry farms. While an environmental impact report has been submitted, the Mayor maintains that the current general local spatial development plan prohibits such installations. He noted that even a positive environmental decision may not allow construction to proceed due to these existing planning regulations.
