Niedersachsen Derby tensions rise amid hate posters and theft

Tensions are escalating ahead of the Niedersachsen Derby between Eintracht Braunschweig and Hannover 96. In Hildesheim, police removed approximately 40 posters featuring the slogan “Eintracht verrecke”. While authorities described the messaging as tasteless, they determined it did not constitute a criminal offense, citing freedom of expression under Article 5 of the Basic Law.

Further complicating the match atmosphere, Eintracht Braunschweig faces potential provocations following a robbery on October 11. During that incident, attackers targeted fans at the Millennium Hall and stole choreography materials intended for the derby. Police in Braunschweig are monitoring the situation, noting that the presentation of stolen materials by opposing fans could lead to stadium escalations.

On the pitch, Eintracht Braunschweig will be without defender Isidoros Koutsidis for the upcoming match. The 21-year-old Greek player is sidelined for several weeks due to a serious muscle injury in his left thigh.
