Niedersachsen Meteor Shower Peaks July 31

On the night of July 30–31, two meteor showers will reach their maximum over Niedersachsen. The Southern Delta‑Aquariids are expected to produce up to 25 meteors per hour, while the Alpha‑Capricornids should add around five brighter fireballs.

Because the Moon will be near full, many faint meteors may be outshone. Observers are advised to find dark sites away from artificial light, such as the Lüneburg Heath, the Harz, the Elbe floodplain or the North‑Sea coast. The best viewing window runs from shortly after midnight until the early morning hours. Looking slightly away from the constellation Aquarius or Capricorn can improve the chance of seeing the brighter fireballs.

Astronomy enthusiasts who can step outside their balconies or gardens during this time may witness up to 30 meteors per hour streaking across the sky.
