Nieuw-West mothers complete training to become homework instructors

Seven mothers from the Nieuw-West district have completed a year-long training program at BuurtMAVO to become homework instructors. The initiative, led by social entrepreneur Fatimzahra Baba and Stichting Progresso, aims to mobilize local female talent to address teacher shortages by providing free homework assistance to students at Calandlyceum and Lumion.

The curriculum included subjects such as language, mathematics, pedagogy, and didactics. Beyond immediate assistance for local students, the program serves as a stepping stone for the graduates to pursue professional careers in education, such as teaching assistants or through teacher training programs (pabo).
