Nieuwe Kijkers art magazine ceases operations after three months

Nieuwe Kijkers, an online magazine dedicated to visual arts in and around The Hague, has ceased operations only three months after its launch in late May. The initiative, founded by art enthusiast Heleen van Roon, aimed to make the art world more accessible to the general public by avoiding academic jargon and elitist critiques in favor of personal stories from those behind art collections.

Founder Heleen van Roon announced the decision to stop following the unexpected rejection of a subsidy application. Due to the significant time investment required and low revenue in its current phase, the project is no longer sustainable. While the website will remain online for the time being, it will no longer be updated.
