Nieuwegein: Driver seriously injured in severe A2 motorway accident

A driver was seriously injured following a severe single-vehicle accident on the A2 motorway near the Nieuwegein-Noord exit on Sunday night. The vehicle left the roadway, struck a lamppost, and then collided with a tree. The impact was so intense that the engine block was thrown from the vehicle.

Emergency responders, including police, ambulances, fire services, and the Mobile Medical Team (MMT), attended the scene. The driver had to be extricated from the wreckage and was transported to the hospital under police escort with serious injuries.

Authorities closed the Nieuwegein-Noord exit and the right lane of the A2 heading toward Utrecht to facilitate emergency operations. A surface rescue team also searched the adjacent water to ensure no other individuals were involved in the incident.
