Nieuwegein power outage affects over 2,000 households
More than 2,000 households in Nieuwegein experienced a major power outage overnight from Sunday to Monday. The disruption began shortly before 11:00 PM on Sunday and lasted for over six hours in some areas, affecting more than ten postal code regions.
Grid operator Stedin reported that electricity was restored to all affected areas by 5:03 AM on Monday. While the exact cause of the outage remains unknown, the incident follows recent issues with street lighting in several parts of the city, including Batau-Noord, Batau-Zuid, Zuilenstein, Doorslag, and Merwestein. Although the local electricity grid in the province of Utrecht is under heavy load, officials noted that grid congestion does not automatically result in outages, which can also be caused by defective cables or transformers.
