NIGCOMSAT CEO urges public institutions to build financial credibility

Jane Egerton-Idehen, Managing Director and CEO of Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT), has advised leaders of African public institutions to establish strong financial credibility before requesting additional funding for reforms.

Speaking on the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation Podcast, Egerton-Idehen emphasized that institutions must demonstrate the ability to manage existing resources responsibly and deliver measurable results. She noted that credibility is not solely defined by commercial or economic returns, but can also be evidenced through clean audits and functioning organizational structures.

To attract sustained investment, Egerton-Idehen recommended proactive transparency, suggesting that institutions should publish financial numbers voluntarily rather than waiting for demands from regulators or the public. Kole Shettima, Africa Director of the MacArthur Foundation, supported these views, noting that funders make decisions based on the credibility, experience, and trust associated with institutional reforms.
