Nigel Farage faces parliamentary probe over £5 million undeclared gift

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage acknowledged that the Commons standards commissioner could take a different view of a £5 million gift he received from Thailand‑based crypto businessman Christopher Harborne. The gift, given in 2024, was not recorded in Farage’s register of interests, prompting a parliamentary investigation into whether the rules requiring MPs to declare any gift over £300 were breached. Farage has insisted the payment was a personal, unconditional gift meant to fund private security and as a “reward for giving up a quarter of a century of my life” after his Brexit campaigning, and he has refused to answer detailed questions on BBC Breakfast. If found in breach, he could face sanctions up to suspension, which might trigger a recall petition and a by‑election in his Clacton seat. A recent poll showed 68 % of the public were concerned about the undisclosed sum.
