Nigel Farage faces standards probe over £5m gift
Nigel Farage, leader of Reform UK, has been interviewed by the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards regarding a £5 million gift from crypto-billionaire Christopher Harborne. The investigation focuses on whether Farage breached House of Commons rules by failing to declare the interest.
Under parliamentary code, new MPs must register any gifts worth more than £300 received in the 12 months prior to their election, unless they could not reasonably be thought to relate to political activities. Farage has maintained that the donation was not political, asserting it was intended for his personal security due to frequent threats.
The inquiry into the undeclared gift has reportedly been completed. Sources suggest an imminent decision may conclude that Farage should have made the donation public. Potential consequences for a breach could include a lengthy suspension from the House of Commons or a requirement to face a second by-election.
