Nigel Farage triggers Clacton by‑election amid donation scandal

Nigel Farage, leader of the Reform UK party, resigned as the MP for the Clacton constituency after questions arose over an undeclared £5 million gift from cryptocurrency investor Christopher Harborne. His resignation forced a by‑election scheduled for 28 July. Farage is campaigning in the constituency alongside controversial figures, including Corey Edwards – a former Reform Senedd candidate who previously appeared to give a Nazi salute – and the satirical candidate Count Binface, known for appearing with a trash‑can head. Major parties such as the Conservatives, Labour, Liberal Democrats and the Green Party have announced they will boycott the vote, describing it as a media circus.

The Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards has opened an investigation into why the donation was not listed on Farage’s register of financial interests, adding further scrutiny to the party’s funding practices ahead of the poll.
