Investigations have revealed that Nigel Farage negotiated a secret pact with former Reform leader Richard Tice and convicted fraudster George Cottrell to return as leader of Reform UK months before the July 2024 general election. The agreement would have Reform repaying or writing off more than £1 million in loans to a company owned by Tice.

Farage also received a £5 million gift from crypto‑billionaire Christopher Harborne in April 2024, which he did not declare to the parliamentary register. The Parliamentary Standards Commissioner opened a formal probe into the gift in May, and the National Crime Agency has been alerted to suspicious financial transactions linked to Reform donors.

While facing the donation probe, Farage is contesting a by‑election in Clacton after resigning his seat. At the same time, Rupert Lowe, leader of the breakaway Restore Britain party, has publicly offered an alliance with Reform, setting out five hard‑line conditions – mass deportations of illegal migrants, a ban on the burka, a referendum on reinstating the death penalty, cuts to welfare spending and the exclusion of former Conservative ministers from any future government.

Farage has described the criticism as a “pile on” and expressed disgust at attacks on him and his party.
