Nigel Farley faces parliamentary probe over £5 million gift and £1.42 million Surrey house

Nigel Farage, leader of Reform UK, received a £5 million cash gift from cryptocurrency investor Christopher Harborne in April 2024, just weeks before announcing his candidacy for the general election. Farage says the money was for his personal security and claims it was an unconditional, non‑political gift, so he did not declare it under parliamentary rules.

In May 2024 Farage bought a Surrey property for £1.42 million in cash. The party argues the purchase was arranged before the gift and funded by Farage’s fee from the ITV programme "I’m a Celebrity…". Company accounts, however, show the fee remained in his media company after the purchase. A parliamentary standards inquiry is assessing whether Farage breached the House of Commons code of conduct, which could lead to a suspension, an apology in the chamber, or a recall petition and by‑election.

Reform UK maintains the gift was personal and unrelated to parliamentary activities, and disputes any rule breach.
