Nigella Lawson debuts as judge on The Great British Bake Off

Nigella Lawson has officially debuted as a judge on the latest series of The Great British Bake Off, replacing Prue Leith. Joining long-standing judge Paul Hollywood and presenters Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding, Lawson’s arrival has drawn mixed but largely positive reactions from critics and fans.

In the premiere episode, which featured challenges involving chocolate stout cakes and self-portrait showstoppers, Lawson expressed her excitement, stating she was “full of cake, hope and expectation.” While some critics noted the show could benefit from more of her signature charm, others described her as a “brilliant addition” and a “soothing presence” that complements the technical scrutiny of Paul Hollywood.

Behind the scenes, presenters Hammond and Fielding discussed the dynamic between the new judging duo, noting that Lawson and Hollywood occasionally have “sparky” disagreements due to their differing tastes in sweet and savoury flavours. The new series marks a significant transition for the long-running Channel 4 program.
