Niger accuses Chad and France of deadly drone strike

The Nigerien government has officially accused Chad of conducting a deadly drone strike on its territory with the support of France. The attack occurred on October 24, 2026, at approximately 1:00 AM in the Emilulu area of the Agadez region, near the Chadian border.

According to official communiqués, the strike resulted in the deaths of two civilians, caused several injuries, and damaged multiple vehicles. Nigerien defense and judicial authorities claim to have established the origin of the strike based on “concordant material and technical elements,” which they intend to present to international bodies.

Niamey has characterized the incident as a flagrant violation of its national sovereignty and the UN Charter. In response, the government has announced several diplomatic and military measures, including the formal summoning of the Chadian ambassador, the referral of the matter to the UN Security Council and the African Union Peace and Security Council, and a request for an independent international investigation.

Chad has firmly rejected these accusations, calling them “unilateral” and stating that no military operations have been conducted from its territory against Niger. N’Djamena has challenged Niger to provide irrefutable material evidence to support its claims.
