Niger accuses Chad of drone strike on its territory

Tensions between Niger and Chad have escalated following accusations from the Nigerien government regarding a drone strike. Niamey reported that on October 24, at approximately 1:00 AM, a drone strike occurred in the Emi Lulu area of the Agadez region, resulting in two civilian deaths, several injuries, and damage to vehicles.

The Nigerien government claims the strike originated from Chad and alleged that France provided support for the operation. Niamey has announced the summoning of the Chadian ambassador and intends to refer the matter to the United Nations Security Council and the African Union Peace and Security Council. They are calling for an independent international investigation and reparations.

In response, the Chadian government has firmly rejected the accusations. This incident follows months of deteriorating relations, with Niger previously accusing Chad of acting as a strategic depth for armed groups targeting Nigerien populations and energy infrastructure.
