A massive landslide at the Dar es Salaam landfill in a suburb of Conakry, Guinea, has resulted in at least 34 deaths and 33 injuries following heavy rainfall. The collapse occurred during the night of August 22-23, burying residential buildings under tons of waste.

Guinean authorities have identified approximately 1,500 people who require relocation. Currently, about 500 displaced individuals are being temporarily sheltered at the Dixinn Centre 1 primary school. Officials have also identified 72 households living in high-risk areas near the site that must be evacuated.

In response to the disaster, the Guinean government has announced plans for a collective burial of the victims and the complete demolition of the Dar es Salaam landfill. Health and territorial administration ministers visited the survivors to coordinate aid, which includes medical assistance and the distribution of mosquito nets. The Minister of Health, Khaité Sall, noted that some of the deceased are citizens of neighboring Sierra Leone, and diplomatic channels have been opened to assist with identification and repatriation.
