Niger and Russia accelerate bilateral cooperation projects
Nigerien President Abdourahamane Tiani met with a Russian delegation led by Energy Minister Serguei Tsivilev in Niamey on October 2, 2026. The meeting followed the inaugural session of the Niger-Russia Intergovernmental Joint Commission, which included over 100 participants from both nations' public and private sectors.
The discussions focused on expanding strategic cooperation in several key areas, including energy, mining, transport, agriculture, health, education, and vocational training. The Russian delegation, composed of government officials and business leaders, presented the results of the commission's work to the Nigerien head of state.
President Tiani emphasized the need to accelerate the implementation of identified projects. This push for concrete bilateral activities comes ahead of the Russia-Africa Summit scheduled to take place in Moscow at the end of October 2026.
