Nigeria advances Bonga Southwest project and recovers power equipment
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) and OML 118 contractors, including Shell (SNEPCo), Esso (Deepwater), and Nigerian Agip Exploration (NAE), have executed agreements to advance the Bonga Southwest/Aparo (BSWAp) deepwater project. This milestone, which includes addenda to the Production Sharing Contract and the Dispute Settlement Agreement, moves the project closer to a Final Investment Decision. The BSWAp development is projected to attract between $15 billion and $21 billion in investment, with a peak production capacity of approximately 175,000 barrels of oil per day and 140 million standard cubic feet of gas per day.
The project follows the approval of the Deep Offshore Oil and Gas Projects Incentives (Tax Remission) Order, 2026, by President Bola Tinubu, aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of Nigeria’s deepwater sector.
Separately, the Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited (NDPHC) reported that the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) facilitated the recovery and clearance of critical power equipment that had been abandoned at various seaports. The NDPHC stated that this intervention helped prevent potential financial losses running into billions of naira and will help accelerate the implementation of essential power infrastructure projects across the country.
