Niger launches industrial development group and national parks agency

Niger is implementing new institutional frameworks to drive industrial growth and environmental management. The Minister of Commerce and Industry, Abdoulaye Seydou, has launched the ‘Groupe Niger-Industrie-Développement’ to support the ‘Niger 2036’ vision. This initiative aims to federate national forces through a local investment fund to finance strategic industrial units, participate in company capital alongside foreign investors to maintain control of national value chains, and support the creation of new economic zones to generate employment.

In parallel, the Nigerien Council of Ministers has adopted the statutes for the creation of the National Agency for Parks and Reserves (ANPR). This agency is tasked with managing and protecting the country’s natural spaces, which cover approximately 20.87 million hectares, or 16.47% of the national territory. The reform seeks to improve the coordination of public actions, enhance biodiversity conservation, and balance environmental protection with sustainable resource exploitation for local communities.
