Niger police dismantle three cybercrime networks
The Niger Judicial Police (DPJ) has dismantled three cybercriminal networks involved in various digital offenses during September 2026.
The first case involves an individual accused of identity theft, harassment, and electronic blackmail. The suspect allegedly posed as a wealthy Somali entrepreneur on TikTok to establish romantic relationships with women. After obtaining intimate photos and videos, the suspect used them to extort money. Authorities recovered over 200 images and videos belonging to both Nigerien and foreign victims.
A second network was identified for electronic fraud involving a scheme to multiply banknotes, resulting in losses exceeding 25 million CFA francs. Two individuals are implicated, with one still at large.
The third case involves the illegal access of Niger Télécom customer accounts to steal communication credits. Three individuals, including former employees of the company, are implicated in the scheme.
