Niger reports deflation and significant export growth

Niger is experiencing divergent economic trends compared to its neighbors in the Alliance of Sahel States. In July 2026, Niger recorded a 2% deflation rate, making it the only country in the alliance to see a decrease in general price levels, while Mali and Burkina Faso saw inflation rates of 2.8% and 2.3% respectively.

On the trade front, Niger's export economy saw significant growth in 2025. The nation exported US$2.13 billion worth of goods, a 93.6% increase from 2024. This export revenue is highly concentrated, with crude oil, processed petroleum oils, and unwrought gold accounting for 95.8% of total export value.

Major trading partners for Niger include Italy, which receives 40.4% of exports, and the Netherlands at 29.6%. While the West African CFA franc declined by 4.5% against the US dollar between 2024 and 2025, the weaker currency has made Niger's exports relatively more affordable for international buyers.
