Niger State Christian population estimated at 45.7 percent

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Niger State chapter has released estimates stating that Christians comprise 45.7 percent of the state's population. According to Deacon Marcus Salka, Chairman of the Christian Statistics Committee, this figure represents approximately 3,417,636 people.

The estimate is based on a projected 2025 population for Niger State of 7,478,417. Salka noted that because Nigeria’s last official census did not capture religious affiliation, the committee relied on demographic data, regional surveys, and research to reach these conclusions.

The committee stated the initiative was necessary to correct what it described as inaccurate projections circulating on social media. Salka emphasized that the size of the Christian population should not be judged solely by levels of participation in active politics, noting that insecurity and displacement have also impacted the distribution of Christian communities within the state.
