Niger State police arrest four suspects in village head murder

The Niger State Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with the killing of Bawa Barde, the 53-year-old village head of Zhilu in the Munya Local Government Area.

Barde was attacked at his residence around 3 am on August 23. He sustained severe machete injuries and was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. Following an investigation, police arrested Zegi Dogari, 48; Danjuma Galadima, 50; Bashir Umar, 32; and John Doma, 35.

During questioning, the suspects reportedly confessed to conspiring to attack the village head. The motives cited include family grievances, such as a dispute over farmland grazing routes and decisions made by Barde regarding a dispute involving Bashir Umar, who is the deceased's cousin. One suspect, Danjuma Galadima, is the brother of the victim. The suspects are expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are finalized.
