Niger State police recover nine bodies following bandit attack
Security forces in Niger State have recovered the bodies of nine travelers along the Wawa-Lumma road in the Borgu Local Government Area. The victims are suspected to have been killed by armed bandits operating in the border corridors.
Niger State Police Command spokesperson SP Wasiu Abiodun confirmed that joint police and military tactical teams were deployed to the scene on Tuesday following reports from local residents. Authorities have intensified clearance operations to secure the area and have launched a search-and-flush operation to locate the perpetrators.
This incident follows a recent large-scale intelligence-led operation involving the National Counter-Terrorism Centre, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Department of State Services, and the Nigeria Police Force. That operation successfully rescued 308 hostages from the Kainji Lake National Park forest, including 163 individuals from Kwara State and 145 from Niger State.
