Niger State secures $150 million IsDB loan for 100 MW solar power project

The Niger State government in Nigeria obtained a US$150 million loan from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) to fund a 100‑megawatt solar power project. The state will add a US$10 million counterpart, bringing total investment to US$160 million.

The project will be sited in Maikunkele, covering roughly 200 hectares, and will include social‑intervention programmes aimed at improving livelihoods in surrounding communities. Officials credited the loan approval to the successful management of the Minna‑Bida Road project, which bolstered the state's credibility with the IsDB. The solar initiative is intended to expand electricity access, reduce reliance on the national grid, and support industrialisation and agricultural productivity across the state.
