Nigeria's opposition urged to unite ahead of 2027 elections

Vice‑presidential candidate Rotimi Amaechi of the Africa Democratic Congress called on all opposition parties to close ranks before the 2027 general election, warning that a fragmented opposition would make it easier for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to retain power. Amaechi made the appeal while visiting a PDP faction that was mourning his mother’s death, stressing that cooperation is the only realistic path to defeat the APC and the Bola Tinubu administration.

In Ogun State, supporters of Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo Bello gathered across several local government areas to endorse her bid for the Senate seat representing Ogun Central in the 2027 election. The Iyaniwura Foundation highlighted her record on education, women’s empowerment and community development, saying she has the experience and competence to give the district a stronger voice in the National Assembly.

A commentary on Kogi West emphasized the need for a new generation of leadership that can drive economic transformation, digital infrastructure, renewable energy and healthcare innovation. It argued that the region must move beyond traditional politics to prepare its youth for an AI‑driven future and to enable local entrepreneurs and farmers to compete in modern markets.
