Seyi Makinde vows to ‘reset’ Nigeria in 2027 presidential bid
Oyo State Governor and Allied Peoples Movement (APM) presidential candidate Seyi Makinde has launched his ‘Reset Nigeria’ campaign for the 2027 general elections. During a town hall meeting in Lafia, Makinde pledged to implement a transitional government of national unity aimed at transforming the country within four years. His proposed agenda focuses on four key pillars: establishing a new security architecture, reforming the education system, restructuring the economy using data and logic, and resetting the socio-political environment.
Makinde criticized the current administration’s economic policies and questioned the funding for the federal government’s proposed expansion of army divisions, noting a lack of clear budgetary provisions for the move. He argued that the 2027 election would be decided by the Nigerian people rather than by financial influence or political billionaires.
In a separate commentary on the political climate, comedian I Go Save described the upcoming 2027 contest as a struggle between the ‘poor’ and the ‘paid poor,’ expressing concern that financial inducements may influence voter choices. Meanwhile, in Oyo State, governorship candidate Sikiru Titilola-Sodo accused Makinde of betrayal for endorsing Bimbo Adekanmbi as his successor, questioning the choice within the existing political coalition.
