Nigeria 2027 presidential election: Ali Modu Sheriff says Atiku must wait, Obi has no chance
Former Borno State governor and APC elder Ali Modu Sheriff told Channels Television’s Politics Today that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar should wait until 2031 before seeking the presidency, arguing that the South’s turn has arrived and the North will not back him. Sheriff said President Bola Tinubu is expected to win re‑election in 2027 but the APC must work hard to secure the vote.
Sheriff also dismissed the chances of National Democratic Congress candidate Peter Obi, claiming northerners will never support him. He alleged Obi “chased all the northerners out of Anambra State” and has failed to condemn separatist groups, adding, “I am not worried about Peter Obi at all because I know the northerners will never vote for Peter Obi.”
