Nigeria: 92 travelers abducted in multiple attacks

The International Society for Civil Liberties and the Rule of Law (InterSociety) reports that at least 92 Christian travelers, primarily from Igbo-dominated regions in South-East and South-South Nigeria, were abducted during two days of attacks on August 9 and August 13, 2026.

The abductions occurred across at least seven separate incidents in Ondo, Benue, and Kogi states. According to InterSociety chairman Emeka Umeagbalasi, while 30 individuals were rescued or escaped, 62 remain untraced or are feared dead.

On August 9 alone, approximately 60 people were taken. Specific incidents included the abduction of passengers from commercial vehicles along the Auchi-Okene Federal Expressway in Kogi State. Local residents and survivors attribute the attacks to Fulani herdsmen and allied bandits operating from nearby forests.
