Nigeria addresses economic growth through human capital and agriculture

Nigeria faces significant economic challenges related to the underutilization of its human capital and the need for agricultural modernization. Data from the World Bank indicates that while the 2025 labor-force participation rate is projected at approximately 80.7% for women and 84.3% for men, substantial gaps remain regarding the quality of work, productivity, and access to capital for women.

Educational exclusion remains a critical barrier to growth. UNICEF reports that roughly 10.5 million children aged 5–14 are out of school in Nigeria, with girls in northern regions facing particularly high rates of exclusion. Addressing these gaps through investment in secondary, tertiary, and vocational training is viewed as essential economic infrastructure.

In the agricultural sector, Ebonyi State is implementing initiatives to boost food security and productivity. Under Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, the state has focused on mechanization, agro-processing, and the revival of local industries, such as a previously dormant fertilizer company. These efforts include distributing improved seedlings and herbicides, restoring poultry facilities, and encouraging youth engagement in agriculture as a commercial enterprise to combat food inflation.
