Nigeria rolls out national AI Trust and AI-powered school system

Dr Bosun Tijani, Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, unveiled a National AI Trust at a two‑day convening at Warwick Business School in London. The Trust is presented as a pioneering governance framework to guide AI adoption, investment and responsible innovation, and is linked to the government’s Project BRIDGE digital strategy and a US$2 billion effort to expand fibre‑optic infrastructure. Tijani said Nigeria aims to become a standard‑bearer for AI governance in Africa and to ensure African representation in global AI systems.

In parallel, Jigawa State launched the first large‑scale Enterprise AI suite, called COGNITION, across its public basic education system under the JigawaUNITE programme with NewGlobe. The system provides real‑time instructional support for teachers, home‑based catch‑up lessons for pupils and instant data analytics for policymakers, aiming to improve learning outcomes and resource allocation. Officials noted the AI enables administrators to query the entire education system in plain English and receive immediate answers.
