Nigeria advances aviation safety and sustainable fuel capacity

Nigeria is advancing its aviation sector through regional safety leadership and sustainable fuel development. In Abuja, the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) hosted the 12th Commission Meeting of the Banjul Accord Group Accident Investigation Agency (BAGAIA). The summit included officials from The Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Cape Verde, and Nigeria, focusing on air accident investigation cooperation, uniform safety standards, and addressing threats like drone incursions.

Simultaneously, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) held discussions with the African Aviation and Aerospace University (AAAU) regarding Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) capacity. The engagement aims to develop the technical expertise and academic foundations necessary to support an emerging SAF ecosystem in Nigeria. A proposed ‘Training of Trainers’ programme was discussed to create subject-matter experts capable of transferring knowledge and supporting the sector’s practical implementation.
