Nigeria advances digital infrastructure and internet governance

Nigeria is advancing its digital infrastructure and regulatory frameworks through new initiatives focused on connectivity and online safety. The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has inaugurated an Internet Governance Working Group to address emerging risks from artificial intelligence, including online fraud, privacy violations, and child protection. This group aims to foster collaboration among stakeholders to create a more accountable digital environment.

Additionally, the 2026 Nigerian Peering and Interconnection Forum (ngPIF) is set to take place in Lagos on October 28–29, 2026. Convened by the Nigerian Network Operators Group (ngNOG) in collaboration with the Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria (IXPN) and the NCC, the forum will focus on strengthening internet peering, improving local traffic exchange, and building resilient infrastructure to support the nation's expanding digital economy.
