Nigeria advances infrastructure projects for major commercial markets

Nigerian state governments are advancing infrastructure projects to modernize major commercial hubs. In Kogi State, the government is constructing the Lokoja Ultra Modern Market on 25 hectares of land. This flagship project, part of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s Urban Renewal Agenda, aims to consolidate seven existing markets into a single, organized trading hub to reduce traffic congestion and improve safety at the current Nataco International Market.

In Lagos State, Deputy Governor Kadri Hamzat announced that road reconstruction and expansion at the Alaba International Market will begin once ongoing drainage projects are finished. The administration is prioritizing flood control to ensure the durability of new roads, with drainage works behind the market reportedly 70 percent complete. These efforts are intended to support the growing commercial activities within the electronics market.
