Nigeria advances maritime sector with shipbuilding report and port lecture

The Nigerian Institution of Marine Engineers and Naval Architects (NIMENA) released a Trend Report on the Advancement of Shipbuilding, outlining a roadmap to position Nigeria as Africa’s leading hub for shipbuilding, repair, offshore engineering and maritime innovation. Developed with Plug and Play Singapore, the report highlights the country’s 27 accredited shipyards, emerging technologies such as AI, digital twins, robotics and blockchain, and calls for policy reforms and digital transformation to build a technology‑driven maritime ecosystem.

The Maritime Reporters’ Association of Nigeria (MARAN) has scheduled its annual Maritime Lecture for 10 September 2026 at the Naval Dockyard in Lagos. The event, themed “Nigeria Ports Modernisation, Charges and the Competitiveness Question,” will feature Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Dr Adegboyega Oyetola and a keynote by Hadiza Bala Usman, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu. Organisers aim to generate actionable recommendations to lower port costs, improve efficiency, attract investment and strengthen Nigeria’s role as a West and Central African maritime hub.
