Nigeria advances national peace policy and youth leadership initiatives

Nigeria is advancing new initiatives to strengthen national stability through policy development and youth engagement. The government, through the Office for Strategic Preparedness and Resilience (OSPRE) and the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), has launched a technical workshop to develop a new National Peace Policy. This framework aims to move the country toward a proactive approach to conflict prevention and institutional coordination, updating previous efforts from 2012.

In a parallel effort, the organization International Alert Nigeria has called on the nation's large youth population to take active roles in peacebuilding, democratic processes, and climate action. During a summit in Abuja, leadership emphasized that redirecting youth energy toward community-oriented causes is essential for social cohesion and national development, while noting that existing government interventions remain inadequate to meet the scale of the demographic challenge.
