Nigeria agricultural leaders focus on research and coffee production
Agricultural leaders in Nigeria are emphasizing the need for research-driven solutions to address food security and climate change. Adamu Abubakar Dabban, Executive Secretary of the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN), urged postgraduate students at Ahmadu Bello University to focus their research on practical innovations in biotechnology, agricultural technology, and sustainable development rather than merely pursuing academic certificates.
In a separate agricultural development initiative, the Cross River State Government is positioning itself as a global coffee producer. Commissioner for Agriculture and Irrigation Development, Johnson Ebokpo, announced plans to distribute 30 million coffee seedlings to farmers over the next five years. The state intends to host the 2026 International Coffee Festival to promote coffee sustainability and build an alternative economy through the cultivation of Arabica and Robusta varieties.
