Nigeria and Australia seek deeper ties in mining and agriculture

Nigeria and Australia are working to strengthen bilateral relations through enhanced parliamentary diplomacy and economic cooperation. During a meeting in Abuja, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, received the Speaker of the Australian House of Representatives, Milton Dick.

The discussions focused on converting cordial diplomatic ties into structured economic partnerships. Key areas identified for potential collaboration include the mining sector, specifically regarding critical minerals, technology transfer, and mineral beneficiation. Additionally, both nations highlighted opportunities in agriculture and livestock development, leveraging Australia’s expertise in agro-processing and export-oriented production.

Ambassador Enikanolaiye noted Australia’s historical support for Nigeria’s pro-democracy efforts and welcomed the recent acceptance of Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Australia, Ambassador Femi Pedro, as a step toward more robust communication.
