Nigeria and Benin Customs agree to modernize Seme-Krake border post

The Nigeria Customs Service and the Republic of Benin Customs have entered into a bilateral agreement to strengthen working relations and enhance economic integration. During a joint assessment of the Seme-Krake one-stop border post, officials focused on leveraging trade modernization projects to facilitate seamless cross-border movement of legitimate goods and services.

Nigeria’s Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, stated that new custom-built technology will provide real-time visibility across the border. This digital connectivity is intended to enhance enforcement by ensuring risk alerts are shared and actionable between both administrations.

The joint assessment also identified physical infrastructure needs to transform the corridor, including the restoration of scanners, improved surveillance, enhanced lighting, and the establishment of harmonized bilingual operating procedures.
