Nigeria and China agree to deepen tourism cooperation
The Nigerian Tourism Development Authority (NTDA) and the China Tourism Academy have agreed to deepen cooperation to increase the number of Chinese tourists visiting Nigeria. The agreement was finalized during a meeting in Beijing between officials from both organizations.
NTDA Director-General Ola Awakan proposed a structured China-Nigeria Tourism Market Development Programme. This initiative aims to provide insights into Chinese traveler preferences, allowing Nigeria to develop tailored marketing strategies and tourism products. Awakan also emphasized the need for technical cooperation in research, destination development, and institutional standards to attract Chinese investors and hospitality businesses to Nigerian projects.
Dai Bin, President of the China Tourism Academy, acknowledged Nigeria’s rich cultural and historical resources and expressed readiness to support tourism exchanges. However, Bin noted the importance of improving Nigeria’s visibility and image among Chinese tourists and operators to foster better understanding of the country.
