Nigeria and China seek film industry partnerships

The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) and the China Film Administration are exploring strategic collaborations to expand film distribution and market access between Nigeria and China. Discussions held in Abuja focused on facilitating the distribution of Nollywood productions in China and increasing the availability of Chinese films in Nigeria.

Key areas of cooperation include theatrical distribution, licensing arrangements, regulatory cooperation, and the exchange of technical expertise. Dr. Shaibu Husseini, Executive Director of the NFVCB, emphasized that these partnerships aim to expand Nollywood’s global reach and promote economic growth through audiovisual content, while noting that all arrangements must comply with Nigerian regulatory frameworks.

Additionally, at the 23rd Abuja International Film Festival, officials highlighted the importance of increasing the number of film festivals across Nigeria to boost tourism and professional networking. The festival is also strengthening ties with Chinese entities, including the Chinese Embassy and the China Film Administration, to foster film co-productions and technology transfer.
