Nigeria and Germany discuss economic and migration ties

Nigerian Ambassador to Germany, Senator Ita Solomon Enang, has formally presented his credentials to German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Berlin. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral ties between Nigeria and Germany.

Key areas of discussion included economic cooperation in the power sector, specifically regarding off-grid technology and Siemens power projects, as well as agriculture and food security. Both nations are looking to negotiate a formal migration agreement to facilitate the engagement of skilled Nigerians in German sectors such as medicine, IT, and artificial intelligence.

Diplomatic talks also addressed Nigeria’s leadership role within ECOWAS, emphasizing the importance of bringing Sahelian states back into the regional forum to enhance security coordination. Additionally, discussions touched upon potential technology transfers in the automotive sector to build local assembly capacity in Nigeria.
